Italic Calligraphy Classes
As an art student in Trinidad and the U.S., she has assimilated experience with various materials including oil, acrylic, charcoal, graphite, clay, plaster, wood and wax. In the past, her drawings and paintings have generally portrayed an eye for realism in nature and the human form, but more recently, her work has evolved from replicating nature as we see it, to more ‘expressionate’ dreamlike scenes, sometimes fantasy, and healing imagery.
Influenced at an early age by the Italian Renaissance, she began her formal art training in San Fernando, Trinidad where she gained experience with graphite and chalks and subjects such as the human face and figure and in 1992, at the age of 18 began her career in tutoring calligraphy. In 1995, she furthered her art education at Miami Dade College in Florida where she was introduced to sculpture and painting. She then returned to Trinidad in 1998 and opened classes for adults in the south, central and north-west areas of the island. Her classes included programs in drawing, painting and calligraphy.
Within recent years, Marsha has explored various new materials with which to create her installation sculptures, but currently favors MDF board – cutting, carving and constructing abstracted buildings and scenes as an alternative to furnishing walls with paintings. She also is now influenced by the exploration of the more spiritual side of life and the therapeutic aspects of art. She enjoys painting mandalas for relaxation and healing and as an aid to meditation practices.
Marsha now resides in Florida once more and continues to paint and tutor adults in drawing, painting and calligraphy. She receives commissions on paintings, mandala art and calligraphy services and is also a henna artist.
Marsha enjoys exploring new materials and manners of expression and believes that self expression, imagination and the will to push beyond the norm are necessary for artistic growth.
