Bonnie Summer

Bonnie Summer was born and raised in South Florida.  She started painting birds and dragons at 7 years old. Over the years, Bonnie dabbled in ceramics, silk screening, charcoal and pastel sketches, before discovering acrylic paints.  Her Uncle bought her a complete set of acrylic paints at age15 and gave her lessons.  Over the years, family and career took precedence over her love of painting, but at age 50 she once again picked up the brush. Today, Bonnie enjoys painting even more than ever. As a resident artist at Artists of Palm Beach County Art on Park Gallery, she finds relaxation by painting at the gallery on Friday and Saturday afternoons.

Bonnie has a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration from Florida Atlantic University and works full time for the Florida Department of Health, Investigative Services Unit.  She also took several art classes in high school and college, as well as the Lighthouse Gallery in Tequesta during her childhood. When she was 12, she worked for a brief time helping local artist Dodie Thayer in her ceramics studio in Jupiter, where she would clean and prepare Dodie’s ceramics for the kiln.

Wildlife, pets, nature, and sea creatures are the motivation for Bonnie’s paintings.  Other interests include famous people and south Florida landmarks like the Juno Pier, Delray Beach, or Wakodahatchee Wetlands.

Bonnie’s second passion is photography, which she picked up as a hobby when she met her second husband Marty Summer who owns Palm Beach Photographics.  She takes photos of everybody and everything, every chance she gets.  Her favorite subject is Gracie, her West Highland Terrier.  Her goal is to paint enough pieces to have a solo exhibition at the gallery.
